The Harrelson Center’s Be The Light connects congregations and youth groups from Help Hub Member Churches with community service projects designed to foster empathy and understanding while delivering meaningful impact for our Partners and their clients.
Twice a year, congregations collect requested items so youth groups may gather and assemble these donated items for Harrelson Center partners. Projects have included 40 welcome home baskets for Family Promise, 60 bath time bags for Foster Pantry and 100+ summer camp kits for Coastal BUDS.
In Spring, 2024, Catholic Charities called on Be The Light to assemble hydration packs for migrant farm workers susceptible to heat-exposure during the summer months. Regional Director for Catholic Charities Emilie Hart was motivated to provide these packs following the tragic death of farmworkers in 2023 due to heat related dehydration. More than 200 hydration packs were assembled with refillable water bottles, electrolytes, sunscreen, bug spray, cooling towels, a bandana, and water.
While addressing this urgent need, Be The Light also exposed young people to the hardships faced by many in our immediate region and introduced them to a population whose essential labor often goes unnoticed.
